Last night was one of those “refill the tank” kind of evenings.

I had the chance to celebrate the ProsperOps team on their recent exit at a fabulous event put together by Alamo Angels . Founded by a group of former Rackers I’ve respected for years, they built a great product I have used across multiple companies and a culture that reminds me of the golden days at Rackspace: high trust, high ownership, and deep care for customers and each other.

Summary

I have seen lots of technology stacks come and go throughout my career. The only constant is change, as they say. And this new AI revolution is certainly the biggest and most exciting shift I have ever since the “mainframe to PC”, “internet”, and “dedicated to cloud hosting” revolutions. Change is scary but be careful of the hype.

At the end of the day it’s still a people driven system.

Early in my career, I was fortunate enough to find myself at a small hosting company that gave me a chance. They didn’t have much cash in the bank but they had a lot of smart people with big ideas and even bigger dreams. One of the people that left a long-lasting huge impression on me was “Mamma” Karla. She set the tone for our culture and she kept all of us kids in line. Last night we celebrated her and her well-deserved retirement.

The other day I was talking to a client of mine about some of the books that inspired me early on in my career. The three books I chose represented an important step of my journey early on as a software developer.

The first book that I chose was The C Programming Language by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie. Circa 1978, this is often referred to as “KnR”. When I first started learning C back in college in the mid-90s, this book represented the ultimate guide for how to code. Even if you aren’t writing C, a lot of the lessons in this book carry forward in many other languages. This book really represented a starting point for me in thinking about how to write software.

This past week I had the pleasure of attending AWS Summit Ciudad de México 2025 on behalf of my new venture, Tú TeleDoc alongside a couple of my incredible co-founders. Things are heating up and we are building great relationships with our partners. I’ll be talking more very soon about what we’re creating but I wanted to give a little insight into the early magic.

Several months ago I connected with a few old coworkers who were in the early-ideation phase of something big. Something that has the potential to make a big difference in healthcare. The more they told me about this early idea and opportunity the more it hit home for me that this was something I wanted to be a part of for a number of reasons.

Managing Priorities by Harry Max

I recently finished reading Managing Priorities by Harry Max. The book goes into detail on a method of structuring your prioritization exercises called DEGAP (Decide, Engage, Gather, Arrange, and Prioritize). A lot of times it takes putting together new ideas as well as methods we’ve already been using and getting that into a structured format so that we can solve these kinds of problems in a more regular and repeatable manner.

My father, Larry Anderson graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1971. He immediately gained employment at a small pharmaceutical company called Texas Pharmacal where he maintained consistent employment until retirement 5 months ago. Over his 53 year career, the company and or division was sold or changed names multiple times including Dermatological Products of Texas (DPT), DFB, Healthpoint Biotherapeutics, and Smith & Nephew. Beyond the initial employment offer, he never had to apply for a job or update his resume.

This week I concluded an amazing 13 months at Swivel. Along the way I met some truly incredible people and built relationships that I will always treasure. I reflect back on all the things we accomplished during this past year and I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride. Product launches (including a record implementation time for Chase Global Payments), business units roll-out, Product+Engineering relationship reset, a highly successful acquisition, re-building cross-functional organization relationships, the beginnings of moving security left, 1st ever Engineering in-person team building event … and I could go on and on.
